Sorry for the outages the past few days.  I was away for a week and the site was hit by a wave of about 42,520 spam blog posts and 5,682 spam blog comments.  Luckily it looks like this did not extend to spam user messages because it was a Search Engine Optimization attack where they post fake links to try to promote some web site.  When I tried to delete all the spam it crashed the server and corrupted the database, but I was able to fix the corruption and delete all of it.

There was a problem where a basic 18-35 years old search would exclude anyone from the day after their 35th birthday on, so it was really only finding people from 18-34.  I think I've got that corrected now, but let me know if you find any problems with the search function or the widgets.

The advantage of using open source software is that this site uses open standards and is constantly being improved by the community of open source developers that work on Elgg.  Unfortunately, the disadvantage is that there is a group of spammers dedicated to attacking it.

We just passed 3600 registered users which means we've tripled the user base in past five months.  We've also made some updates to the site to allow users to search for roommates and filter their results by keyword.  The keyword results might have a few bugs, so let us know if you find any.

 
How do I search for other users? - Click Search Profiles in the upper right hand corner on any page.
 
How do I send messages? - First, you must be logged in with a username and password, then you can click Send Message on anyone's profile, under their picture, to send them a private message.

Thank you for your continued support and patronage here at MyFreePersonals.  The total number of active users on the site has more than doubled since we launched the new version on January 1st, from 1250 to 2500 as of a few minutes ago.  The site obviously still needs work, but we are on it.

Over the past week we've been working on several updates to the site which we rolled out today.
 
For one you can now search by zip code radius as well as by state or nation.  Not all users have entered a zip code but for those who have this will help you find other users close to you easily.

One thing we got feedback from several users about on the new site was the confusing way the friends feature works.  It is really more like Following someone on Twitter, not friending them on Facebook, since there is no confirmation required.  So we just renamed it from Friends to Following.
