Introspection

Here is a fun topic I refer to a lot and say little about. Well maybe more than a little. But what is it to be introspective. The simple answer is you think about who and what you are and why and how you behave, then you try to figure out if that is what you want to be and if not try to change it a bit over time. Because I mean seriously who can change themselves radically instantly? The brain simply does not make new neural connections that fast.

So there is that old joke or saying or whatever- if you think you are introspective then you most certainly are not. Sort of like that whole humble thing, the people who think they are humble are reeking with vanity about it. So where does that leave us? Well we try to be introspective if we want but truth is I find very few people are introspective to any degree, of course there is my evil judgement invading my thoughts again. We will talk about judgements another time.

How about this one, why be introspective? It takes time and energy, it can lead to uncomfortable thoughts and emotions and worst of all if it is fun you are more than likely not doing it. Because when we think only about how great and wonderful we are then we have hardly thought about anything at all, other than to puff up our own egos. (FYI I also believe when we instead of dumping placations on ourselves focus them on somebody else like say some random made up god we happen to like fantasising about it amounts to the same shit, you are not being introspective). So why do it? Because it helps you relate to other people? It might help you consider your actions and actually plan what you might like out of life. After all there is no meaning but what you make of it (yes yes I am a rabid atheist and believe in nothing if you are reading these blogs you should know that by now).

So the pro’s of being introspective is you might get better reactions out of people and yourself and you might be able to create a more stable life for yourself or at least understand yourself and life better. Notice I only said might. And the Con’s, energy loss, time loss, difficult thoughts, risking that lovely blissful ignorance wall we all put up. Well I am sure you can come up with more pro’s and con’s than I can but that is a fine start for me with my lazy brain and all.

What that is it? Well sadly yes that is all I have on the subject for now.
