Sky is Falling?

I am always impressed by the racism, homophobia and white supremacy of films in the last century. But rarely are we given an opportunity to see it in our 2012 blockbusters. A rare treat it is indeed to see so many offensive portrayals rolled into one movie, and the latest incarnation of James Bond does it all. We have the incompetent black woman who can’t shoot straight and takes the hint to give up her dreams of being a real agent to become Money Penny, the incompetent white woman M who can’t find the bad guys to save her life (which she doesn’t), the evil Hispanic (I understand it is popular to hate Hispanics these days since hating blacks has become bad form) who is not only the poor boy betrayed coming for revenge but also we are allowed to taste his succulent gay seductor roll as he first ties up our manly white boy, James Bond, and then tempts him into the ‘amoral’ gay lifestyle (My oh my wont evangelicals be pleased to see their deluded fantasies played out on the big screen).

So let’s take stock, women, blacks, Hispanics, and gays can we add anything else to the offensive list? Well give them the chance. It turns out our poor everyman made success James Bond is actually a rich kid whose mommy and daddy died (was this an attempt to steal the batman thunder?). Apparently he was rich all along and fooled us to thinking he was just like us, whoever we are. And of course that Hispanic boy had a sob story about never being allowed to advance in the life he wanted. So here we have it, the last of the list, the rich are right to keep the poor down, after all, if you let the poor into your ranks they will just betray you (after you betray them of course because you have to betray them, it’s only proper and they should be happier for being betrayed since they are inferior). So we are supposed to cheer the rich keeping the poor in their place-those rich being white men of course, because that pesky incompetent white woman really had to die, it’s only proper she let her betters in charge, after all.
